Junior Choir
The Junior Choir is a delightful and enthusiastic group of children who enjoy making music for pleasure. The choir continues a winning tradition began in 1931.
This is a non-audition choir catering for children in grades 3 - 7. Older members are encouraged to remain for the Cambrian Youth Choir rehearsal which follows.
Our aim is that choristers make singing a lifestyle choice and progress through from the Juniors to the Cambrian Youth Choir and then to the Senior Choir.
Performances
For the sake of our parents this choir does not travel far to perform. Engagements are accepted in the greater Ipswich area and on occasion Brisbane. Proceeds are used to provide the facilities. The choir competes in local eisteddfodau (very successfully) and performs in its own concerts and mini-musicals. Are you interested in joining our choirs?
We try to incorporate many styles of music into our repertoire including classical, novelty, sacred and musical theatre. One annual highlight is appearing in an outdoor carols performances in the grounds of Booval House with the Cambrian Youth Choir.

Rehearsals are in the cambrian centre from 3.30pm to 4.30pm Fridays during the school year. Some extra Sunday afternoon rehearsals may be scheduled where required for competitions or demanding performances. Members will need a display folder to protect their music. Members are encouraged to go over their songs during the week.

History
A previous attempt was made to form a young choir in 1931 when assistant conductor Warrie Hurford formed the Cambreens with pianist Joan Vincent. Mr Hurford was not in good health, and was not able to continue the group for long. The Junior Cambrian Choir was formed in 1947 under conductor Lyla Maguire and pianist Kathleen Gee.
The Junior Cambrians were successful from the very beginning, winning at the Ipswich Junior Eisteddfod, holding balls, concerts and operettas, and helping to sustain the choir financially. They soon numbered 120 children and delighted everyone with their enthusiasm.
The Juniors’ lapsed in 1959 but were reformed in 1965 with Blodwyn Whitehead as conductor. During the absence of Blodwyn Whitehead, Mrs Norma Fox conducted. In the late 1960's the Juniors’ were asked to sing at Cribb and Foote at Christmas, the beginning of a continuing tradition.
