Youth Choir Leadership

Musical Director

Berniece J. Hicks OAM (musical director) and Bronwyn French (accompanist) are a formidable combination of talent, practical experience, expertise and commitment. Both have private studios, teaching piano and voice to a cross section of ages. Berniece received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2005 for her contribution to the community and to the development of the arts. She is a prominant singing and piano teacher in the Ipswich community entering them successfully in examinantions with AMEB and in local and state eisteddfods. She has been directing the Youth Choir since 1996 with Bronwyn French. She was a member of the Ipswich Choral Society for many years and has conducted and directed many church choirs throughout Australia since the mid 1970’s.

Accompanist

Bronwyn French is the teacher aide of music at Ipswich Grammar School and teaches many successful students piano and singing. She has been the accompanist of the Cambrian Youth Choir since 1996 and accompanied the Junior Cambrian Choir for many years.

The work of Berniece and Bronwyn is being recognised and rewarded, and has been proudly displayed with the City of Ipswich support, when the Cambrian youth choir was asked to host and perform for the visiting Vienna Boys Choir. Their musical expertise and uniqueness was ratified when they featured as both host and supporting artist for the Australian Girl's choir Tour of Queensland in July 2001, and also the Welsh choir in 2003.
